HAMA Recognized with Award

The Hofstra American Marketing Association (HAMA) was recently awarded the 2016 Reginald Andre ’04 Endowed Award for Zarb School of Business Student Activities. This award is granted by Reginald Andre (BBA ’04) and sponsors a new program, event, or initiative.

In the fall of 2016, HAMA members (some of whom are pictured below) will be organizing a marketing pitch competition. Groups will be led by one alumni each, and together they will create a marketing plan for the different companies that are selected. A panel of marketing professionals will judge the competition and network with students and alumni. The goal of this event is to cultivate alumni connections and assist the local business community while also improving students’ presentation, communication and teamwork skills.

Three Resources for Your Career Planning

As we wrap up the spring 2016 semester at the Zarb School of Business, we would like to congratulate ALL of our new graduates, our continuing students, and our alumni for a job well done!!

We’d like to offer some more career advice via these three very different types of information that should aid you in career planning:

“How much you make is a topic few people like to reveal. It’s considered impolite in many circles and it’s also fairly subjective, depending on your position and skill level, as well as gender, age, and race, among other factors.”

“To better understand where you really fall on the income scale, Creditrepair.com broke down the median income in the U.S. by education, age, race, geography and gender using Census Bureau data. How does your paycheck stack up?”

Click on the chart to see a very information-filled slideshow.

“Becoming a successful entrepreneur is no easy feat. However, just about every business owner who has created a sustainable self-employed career, will tell you that they wouldn’t have achieved their goals, without guidance from others. They’re not afraid to ask for help, take great business advice, and adjust their strategies based on insights from those who’ve done well before them.”

“Most accomplished entrepreneurs are successful in a large part, because they’ve made it a point to surround themselves with trusted advisors, mentors, and industry experts. That’s why we asked these top business leaders to share their single most impactful piece of advice for aspiring entrepreneurs.”

“You’re doing everything right at work, taking all the right advice, but you’re just not moving up. Why? Susan Colantuono shares a simple, surprising piece of advice you might not have heard before quite so plainly. This talk, while aimed at an audience of women, has universal takeaways — for men and women, new grads, and mid-career workers.”

Zarb Alums: Appearing On ABC’s May 6 “Beyond the Tank”

Zarb’s “Shark Tank” Winners (see 1, 2) have done it again. They are scheduled to be on ABC’s “Beyond the Tank.”

As Hofstra’s Marilou R. Giammona reports:

“Just a year after Zarb School of Business ’05 alumni Avin Samtani, Rob Peck, and Jonathan Kinas successfully pitched their portable safe, AquaVault, on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” the trio has been selected to appear on an episode of the network’s “Beyond the Tank,” which will air May 6 at 8 p.m. EST.  “Beyond the Tank” is the follow-up show to the Emmy-winning “Shark Tank.” The new series tells the story of what happens after entrepreneurs hook an investor. As the investors travel across America to mentor the entrepreneurs, assess the businesses, and provide their industry expertise, the audience gets a glimpse of the challenges the entrepreneurs face.”

“’Our last year has been a complete roller coaster,” said Samtani. ‘Since appearing on ‘Shark Tank,’ we’ve experienced a tremendous increase in sales, but with that comes pressure to keep that momentum going after all the buzz.’ The AquaVault team, which invented an outdoor travel safe that can be used at the beach, pool and water parks, as well as during activities such as boating and biking, reeled in investor Daymond John on the original show.”

“The AquaVault executives have continued to expand their reach, teaming up with big industry players like HSN in addition to many world class hotels including Ritz Carlton, Hilton, Marriott, Loews, and W from Florida to California. And they’ve enhanced their product line, as well. Sales continue to increase for the AquaVault, a 120-square-inch cargo hull made of durable high-impact ABS thermoplastic that is roomy enough for wallets, watches, mobile phones, jewelry, keys, and other valuables. New this year is the FlexSafe, which is a soft-sided personal portable vault to secure valuables during all sorts of outdoor activities. When empty, the FlexSafe collapses, making it simple to pack in your luggage or carry-on bag.”
